About Courvoisier VSOP

Courvoisier VSOP is an elegant and beautifully balanced French Cognac, combining ripe fruit, delicate floral notes, warming spice and refined oak. Smooth and layered without becoming heavy, it offers greater depth and maturity while retaining the approachable character for which Courvoisier is known.

The Courvoisier story began in 1809, when Emmanuel Courvoisier and Louis Gallois established a wine and spirits business in Bercy, near Paris. Their reputation for sourcing and maturing quality Cognacs grew rapidly, and in 1828 the next generation moved the business to Jarnac, placing the house at the heart of the Cognac region.

Courvoisier’s history also became famously associated with Napoleon Bonaparte. According to the house’s long-standing story, Napoleon visited the company’s warehouses in Bercy in 1811, beginning an association that would eventually give Courvoisier its celebrated connection with the French emperor.

VSOP stands for Very Superior Old Pale, with the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend matured for at least four years in oak. Courvoisier VSOP brings together carefully selected eaux-de-vie, including those from the Grande and Petite Champagne crus, before maturation develops its rich fruit, vanilla, floral and gently spiced oak character.

The result is a refined Cognac with enough complexity for slow sipping while remaining wonderfully versatile. Its combination of fruit, florals and polished oak makes it an excellent choice for anyone looking to move beyond younger Cognacs into a richer, more mature style.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Ripe apricot, peach and jasmine with vanilla, toasted almond and gentle oak spice.

Palate: Smooth and rounded with honey, dried fruit, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon and refined toasted oak.

Finish: Long and elegant with lingering dried fruit, sweet spice, vanilla and warming oak.

Enjoy Courvoisier VSOP neat in a tulip-shaped Cognac glass to allow its delicate aromas and layered character to develop.

It is equally enjoyable over a large ice cube or with a small splash of still water. For a classic cocktail, use it in a Sidecar with orange liqueur and fresh lemon juice, where its rich fruit and smooth oak character remain beautifully expressive.
