About Courvoisier VS Cognac

Courvoisier VS Cognac is a vibrant and approachable French Cognac with fresh fruit, delicate floral notes, gentle spice and refined oak. Smooth enough to enjoy on its own yet lively enough for cocktails and long drinks, it offers an accessible introduction to the distinctive style of the Courvoisier house.

The Courvoisier story began in 1809, when Emmanuel Courvoisier and Louis Gallois established a wine and spirits business in Bercy, near Paris. The pair developed a reputation for sourcing and maturing quality Cognacs from the Charente region, laying the foundations for a house that would become recognised around the world.

Courvoisier also developed its famous association with Napoleon Bonaparte. According to the house’s long-standing story, Napoleon visited the company’s warehouses in Bercy in 1811. This connection would eventually lead to Courvoisier becoming widely known as the “Cognac of Napoleon”.

In 1828, the next generation moved the business to Jarnac in the heart of the Cognac region. This brought Courvoisier closer to the vineyards, distillers and ageing cellars responsible for creating its spirit and established the home from which the house continues its Cognac-making tradition.

VS stands for Very Special, with the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend matured for at least two years in French oak. Courvoisier VS is created from carefully selected eaux-de-vie chosen for their expressive fruit character, before blending and maturation bring additional vanilla, spice and subtle oak.

The result is a fresh and versatile Cognac that retains youthful vibrancy while offering the smoothness and balance expected from Courvoisier.
