Inspired by centuries of seafaring history surrounding the Isle of Wight, Mermaid Spiced Rum captures the spirit of exploration, folklore and adventure. One of its greatest influences is the story of The Clarendon, a merchant ship carrying rum, sugar and molasses from the Caribbean that was wrecked off the island’s southern coast during a violent storm in 1836.

Local legend tells of a young woman lost during the disaster whose body was later discovered near her family home, giving rise to stories that mermaids had carried her safely back across the sea. The tragedy became an enduring part of Isle of Wight folklore and helped inspire improvements to coastal safety, including the development of St Catherine’s Lighthouse.

Mermaid Spiced Rum begins with a blend of aged Caribbean rums from Trinidad and the Dominican Republic, matured in oak barrels before travelling to the Isle of Wight for its distinctive finishing process. The rum is infused with carefully selected island ingredients including locally foraged rock samphire, Isle of Wight honey and black salt, alongside notes of cherry, apricot, vanilla and warming spice.
