Then Came a Bark!

For three agonising days, a family in the Philippines feared they had lost their beloved Golden Retriever, Lexa.

Then came a bark.

Two-year-old Lexa was at her family home in General Trias, Cavite, when days of heavy rain caused the ground behind the property to collapse on 7 August.

Mud, concrete and debris came crashing through the house as a landslide tore through the property.

Lexa’s family were evacuated to safety — but amid the chaos, their dog had disappeared.

They couldn’t find her.

As the hours passed, the family feared the worst. Their home had been devastated and Lexa was somewhere among the wreckage.

Three days went by.

And then they heard something beneath the rubble.

A bark.

Lexa was alive.

Volunteers and local authorities began the painstaking task of trying to reach her. With Lexa trapped beneath mud, rocks and broken concrete, rescuers had to carefully work their way through the debris without hurting the dog they now knew was somewhere underneath.

Using jackhammers and other tools, they gradually cleared a path towards her.

Eventually, a small opening appeared.

And after spending three days trapped beneath the remains of her home, a muddy Lexa finally crawled through it and emerged alive.

She was free.

It was an extraordinary ending for a family who, only hours earlier, had feared they would never see their dog again.

Lexa had survived three days beneath the rubble — and when her family needed it most, one little bark told them not to give up hope.

Sometimes the best news in the world can begin with the smallest sound. ❤️🐾
