A newborn kitten in Texas has used up at least one of its nine lives after surviving an extraordinary 76-mile journey trapped inside a car.
The tiny passenger wasn’t exactly travelling first class.
A healthcare worker had driven from Rocksprings to Kerrville when, after arriving at work, the unmistakable sound of a kitten crying could be heard coming from somewhere inside the vehicle.
Staff at Peterson Health began searching for the source of the noise and discovered that a very small kitten had somehow become trapped inside the front of the car.
Getting it out wasn’t as simple as opening the bonnet.
With help from Kerrville Animal Control, rescuers had to remove part of the vehicle’s front grille before they could finally reach the frightened little stowaway.
Remarkably, after travelling at least 76 miles hidden inside the vehicle, the kitten had survived.
Once freed, the newborn was taken into the care of Kerrville Pets Alive, where it was kept safe and warm and given the food and care it desperately needed. The rescue organisation also planned to place the youngster with a nursing mother cat to give it the best possible start in life.
And it didn’t take long for people to fall in love with the little survivor.
Within a day of news of the rescue being shared, people were already asking about giving the kitten a permanent home.
From an incredibly dangerous journey inside a car to warmth, food and the prospect of a loving family, it’s been quite a road trip for one very lucky little kitten.
It might not have walked 500 miles.
But 76 miles tucked inside a car is more than enough adventure for one tiny cat. ❤️🐾
